LYE Town have landed a pre-season lift with several former players returning to the club.

Prolific striker Steve Weaver is back at Stourbridge Road following a spell with Tipton Town.

Experienced defenders Ben Jevons and Dan Flower have also returned to the fold along with Sam Mills.

Joint-boss Martin Thomas revealed: "Sam has taken 12 months out of football, but he's a very promising young central defender and his return to the club is very welcome."

On the downside, former Stourbridge player Ben Billingham picked up a groin injury during the pre-season friendly with Bewdley Town and now faces a race against time to be fit for their opening FA Cup clash with AFC Wulfrunians on August 6.

Lye have already ruled out any prospect of their former Shrewsbury Town and AFC Telford striker Marco Addiggo starting the season after the marksman sustained a calf injury.

The Stourbridge Road side complete their pre-season programme with a trip to last season's West Midlands League runners-up AFC Bridgnorth and then travel to Gornal Athletic on Tuesday.
