YOUNG swimmers from Halesowen Swimming Club travelled to Coventry’s 50m pool for the West Midlands Championships.

Over two weekend of May 21 and 22 and May 28 and 29, the eight 11-14 year old qualifying swimmers competed against the best in the region, and achieved excellent results.

Silver medalists were Robert Jennings in the 14 years 100m freestyle and Olivia Jay in the 14 years 50m breaststroke. Niamh Larkin got bronze in the 11-12 years 50m breaststroke.

Jacob Bailey and Kate Morrice were unlucky not to come home with a medal, both getting fourth place in the 11-12 years 50m backstroke and 14 years 50m freestyle respectively.

Other finalists were Amber Robbins in the 14 years 50m breaststroke (5th), Niamh Larkin in the 11-12 years 100m backstroke (5th), Olivia Jay in the 14 years 100m breaststroke (7th) and Robert Jennings in the 14 years 50m freestyle, 200m freestyle and 50m butterfly (7th, 7th and 6th) Overall, the young swimmers performed well, giving them invaluable experience at a regional competition in an Olympic size pool.
