HALESOWEN'S wheelchair tennis star Jordanne Whiley and partner Yui Kamiji retained their women’s doubles title at the Japan Open.
In the event in Iizuka, Fukuoka, Whiley and Japan's Kamiji produced a dominant performance to retain their title as they beat Dutch top seeds Jiske Griffioen and Aniek van Koot 6-1, 6-1. It was their fourth Super Series doubles title together.
“I was disappointed with my singles this week after going out in the quarter-finals I really wanted to win here with Yui in her home country,” said Whiley. “It’s also an important win for me as I needed the points to stay in the world’s top four in doubles, so to produce such a good win over the current world number one pairing is great.”
