GORNAL Athletic have made a move for prolific forward Stuart Hillman from rivals Dudley Sports.

Peacocks boss Andy Wyton has made a seven-day approach for the star striker who has bagged 23 goals in 19 appearances this season to help Dudley towards to top end of the West Midlands League.

Wyton has designs of putting together a forward line that would add Hillman to the likes of Geoff Hill and Liam Hickman at Garden Walk.

He said: “We have made an approach for Stuart and we should know at the weekend if he’ll be linking up.

“He’s been doing really well at Sports but can hopefully see the long-term appeal of Gornal.

However, Sports boss Tony Gore is hopeful Hillman will stay.

"It's nothing new having an approach for Stuart," he said. "He has already turned three or four other clubs down this season so there is no reason to think this will be any different."

Meanwhile, Athletic beat Bilston Town Community 3-0 last Saturday thanks to a brace from Hickman and a header from Ross Love handed the visitors the victory.

“It was a good dogged performance from us,” added Wyton. “We battled well and took our chances when they came our way.”

The win was made all the sweeter due to the amount of absences in the squad.

Wyton had to contend with 12 players missing the clash through injury and suspension. He called upon midfielder Ben Stretton to plug a gap in the centre of the pitch.

Gornal were set to welcome Racing Club Warwick last night in the Birmingham Midweek Cup.

They will host Bewdley Town in the league on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

“Our aim now is to finish in the top six,” said Wyton. “Our home form is good and we must look to put a run together.”
