HALESOWEN Town have signed former Walsall defender Chris Westwood.

Westwood has more than 500 league games under his belt and is well known for his long spells with Harllepool United and Walsall.

The Dudley-born defender and can play either as a full-back or centre back.

He has enjoyed a long career in the pro game, beginning with Wolverhampton Wanderers back in 1995.

He had a short spell with Reading but then joined Hartlepool United where he made over 250 appearances in a six-year career.

He then local league side Walsall, playing sixty-nine games before leaving the Saddlers for Peterborough United.

Since then he has enjoyed spells at Cheltenham Town (on loan), Wycombe Wanderers and Wrexham where he picked up an FA Trophy winners` medal in March 2013 when the Welsh outfit beat Grimsby Town in the final at Wembley - Westwood scoring one of the shoot-out penalties to clinch victory for the Red Dragons.

Surprisingly he wasn`t offered a contract by Wrexham and he moved to fellow Conference Premier rivals Alfreton Town where he played over twenty-odd games last season. More recenlty he has had a spell with Hednesford Town before joining the Yeltz.
