HALESOWEN Town chairman Colin Brookes says he is excited by the club's new attacking talent.

The Yeltz swooped this week to bring in former England youth prospect Elikem Amenku.

The Togo-born former West Bromwich Albion attacker, who represented England under-16s with the likes of Raheem Sterling and Nick Powell, joins forwards Connor Collins, Greg Pearson and Mike Taylor to arrive this summer.

Former Tipton Town midfielder Gurpal Singh Mandair also arrived at the Grove to boost the club's midfield options that now include the returning Jay Denny.

Their additions, as well as attacking full back Isaac Cooper, who has bagged three goals in the last two friendly games, have left Brookes pleased with how the side is shaping up.

He said: "Our attacking option was one area that the manager wanted to improve. We want to be a bit better going forwards to add to our strength at the back last season "It looks like he has done just that. The players that have come in look exciting and it will be interested to see how they progress."

It was Cooper that was on the scoresheet once more as Hales drew 2-2 with Chasetown on Monday night to continue manager John Hill's preparations for the new campaign.

That followed last Saturday's 1-1 away draw with AFC Wulfrunians, the third successive pre-season stalemate for the Yeltz.

Town a number of changes to the team as Hill continued to assess the current squad and a number of trialists.

The first half saw Matty Clarke take a seat in the main stand with John Hill and Kev Barry directing play from the technical area.

Hales lined up with a back three of Joe Hull, Chris Westwood and Anthony Charles, wing backs of Ashley Parsons-Smith and Aaron Griffiths and a midfield trio of Jay Denny, Danny Bragoli and a trialist. Upfront were Greg Pearson and Connor Collins.

It was the home team that took the lead through an own goal when Westwood unluckily turned the ball home past Dan Platts in the Yeltz goal.

The second half was barely a few minutes old before the Yeltz equalised. A free-kick some 25 yards out was given and up stepped half time substitute Cooper to smash home a perfect left-footed piledriver.

Hales will travel to Atherstone Town this Saturday.
