OLD Halesonians Hockey Club men’s first XI halted their losing streak with a 2-2 draw away to Stone.

Hales, who had suffered in previous weeks, came out fighting from the start and were much improved as they looked calm and collected on the ball.

The visitors dominated the early periods of the games, with chances falling to the strikers who were unable to convert. Hales were not rattled and stuck to their game plan which soon paid off when Tom Bulteel struck home to make it 1-0. Stone did reply by throwing players forward, and were able to draw the scores level before the half time break.

In the second half, Hales continued with their counter attacking yet progressive play. Chances were far and few between, but a string of penalty corners which were cleared by the Stone defence, were soon to be their shortfall.

Tom Bulteel converted to score his second goal of the game, and to give Hales the lead once more. Old Hales continued to try and extend their lead, but were unable to do so.

An excellent performance from Hales was tainted when Stone equalised for the second time, with just minutes to go. Hales were pleased with their improved performance, and coach Simon Palmer was unable to find any negative points in the post-game team talk.

Next week Hales face top of the league side Stourport at Ormiston Forge Academy.
