DUDLEY Kingswinford have begun a search for new players following their winless start to life in National League Three Midlands.

Director of Rugby Carl Douglas confirmed the club have started a recruitment process aimed at strengthening the squad at Heathbrook.

DK will now be pushing their search further afield after finding it difficult to attract players during pre-season.

"We want to add players and have started the recruitment process," said Douglas. "We didn't manage to strengthen before the season started when a number of our targets decided to stay with their clubs.

"We now have a number of irons in the fire."

The club's poor start to the season continued when a disappointing second half saw them lose 32-14 at home to Bournville last Saturday.

The first half saw DK impose themselves on the game with a powerful forward display. The early pressure was all from the home side and Kieran Pinches slotted a penalty to make it 3-0.

Then, on 16 minutes, a five metre lineout led to Donavon Smile powering to the line. He was brought down just short and the ensuing ruck was dominated by the arriving DK forwards and Matt Perks was able to force his way over to make it 8-0.

A Bournville penalty drew them closer before Pinches hit two in reply for DK to leave the scores at 14-3.

However, on the brink of half time, Bournville applied a period of pressure which saw outside centre Robin Eatough go over. Alex Warner converted to pull the scores close at 14-10 at the break.

A disastrous second half saw DK fail to score a single point as Bournville hit back.

Right wing Paul Sumner scored two tries in the opening 10 minutes of the half to give the visitors a 22-14 lead.

Bournville then took advantage of a yellow card for Jon Tideswell to chalk up a further seven points before then completing to scoring at 32-14.

Douglas added: "The overall feel was of disappointment after the game. The second half performance wasn't up to the standard we know we are capable of.

"We need to address how we restart the game.

"National league rugby is unforgiving but we have had many positives to take from every game so far. There have been many different positive elements but our problem has been putting them all together at the same time.

"However, I don't think we are far off that happening. We have cut out individual errors and are getting the basics right."
