GREG Wright believes relegation from the Birmingham Premier League’s top flight may in the end have a positive effect for Himley.

Their season ended on another low note on Sunday when they lost the final of the Staffordshire County Cup at home to Leek after defeat to Walsall on Saturday.

It was a defeat that Wright felt summed up what has been a disappointing season for the club.

“We gave them 20 or 30 runs in the field and then lost wickets to poor shots against the new ball,” said Wright.

“It perhaps sums up our season.”

Plans are already being hatched for an immediate return to the Premier Division with Wright saying: “We have been looking ahead for the past six weeks really because the writing has been on the wall.

“We don’t want to spend more than one season down in Division One even though it is a good standard. Hopefully the senior players will give us another season, they owe us that at least.

“Hopefully we can bounce back and this season has highlighted where we have to improve both on and off the pitch, and what has happened is perhaps a testament to the standard we have been playing at.”

“This may prove a positive, that’s my theory, there always positives to be taken, but we need to be tactically better and play better.”
