IT was a dream come true for a Dudley care home resident when he had chance to try his hand at treasure hunting.

Ronald Kindred – a resident at Broadway Halls in Dudley – had always wanted to have a go, particularly hunting for ‘rich stuff’ with a metal detector, so staff at the home pulled out all the stops to help make his wish come true.

The team at the home said they were delighted to oblige as they knew how much it meant to beloved resident Ronald, aged 94.

They first found out about the secret hankering when activities coordinator Scott Bates did a talk in 2023 about metal detecting and the treasures he has found – so they set about helping him to realise his ambition.

With help from Scott, Ronald was given equipment and advice to try his hand at metal detecting in the grounds of the home.

He said of the experience: “I was on the verge of tears. It is such an amazing feeling to know that such a loving group of people care so much about me that they helped me to live out a dream – and I didn’t even ask.”

Danica Chugh, general manager at the home - which is run by Barchester Healthcare, said: “We believe that every moment is worth cherishing. We want everyone we care for to know how important they are to us here at Broadway Halls.

“It is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team here in making our residents’ dreams come true. It was wonderful to see how happy Ronald was – and the staff loved being a part of this as well.”
