A BID to convert a Dudley house into studio flats which was dropped after a local school and police objected is back on the table.

A new application to convert 6, Grange Road, into four studio flats has gone in to Dudley Council.

It comes after a previous bid to convert the terraced house into five flats was withdrawn after nearby Jessons CE Primary School and West Midlands Police raised concerns.

The school said the extra cars could compromise pupils' safety and that there were "safeguarding concerns" as residents would be able to see pupils from the flats.

The school said: "We have already had a few near misses with children and cars as some drivers choose to park half on the pavement, which in some cases means children and parents have to walk in the road to get past."

It went on to say residents would have a "very clear view of school grounds" which "raises safeguarding concerns if there is not a robust screening process in place to make sure residents are not a danger to children."

Police objected on the grounds that there was only one parking space; the proposal could lead to an increase in vehicle crime as cars would have to park in nearby roads due to parking restrictions on Grange Road and it being in an area of high police demand.

An earlier bid was refused by planners who said the proposed development was "over intensive" and "inappropriate with the context of the surrounding area" making the new application the third time planning permission has been sought.
