HOUSBUILDERS clubbed together and scored a birdie when their fundraising golf tournament collected more than £12,500 for two West Midlands based charities.

Organised by Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes, the event – raising money for Bromsgrove’s Primrose Hospice and Lye’s Midlands Air Ambulance Charity – featured 23 teams of players from more than 40 local businesses.

The money raised will be spent on providing services for people with life limiting illnesses at Primrose Hospice, and on keeping the three air ambulances at Midland Air Ambulance operational.

Kate Kelly, corporate fundraiser at Primrose Hospice, said: “This is an extremely generous and very welcome donation from the developers and the companies that took part in the golf tournament.”

Sofia Voutianitis, Midlands Air Ambulance’s corporate partnerships manager, said: “We’d like to thank Barratt and David Wilson Homes and all those who contributed to the golf day for their overwhelmingly generous donation, which will go towards the £7m a year we need to raise to keep our air ambulances operational.”

The tournament was won by a team from civil engineering company MV Kelly, who completed the 18 hole course with 85 points.

Graydon Worthing, sales director for Barratt Homes West Midlands, said: “The tournament was a great day of golf enjoyed by all, made even better knowing that we were raising vital funds for some deserving local charities.

“It’s good to know that the money will be put towards saving and improving people’s lives.”

Teammate John Fitzgerald, managing director of David Wilson Homes Mercia, said: “As responsible developers it is our duty to contribute towards local communities where we work, and we’re very pleased that our golf day was able to raise so much money for these vital charities, while also being a great deal of fun.”
