A LOWER Gornal man who had sex with a schoolgirl in a “moment of madness” has been jailed for 38 months.
Matthew Southall, of The Straits, paid no heed to warnings from the mother of the 15-year-old to stay away from her daughter.
Judge Amjad Nawaz told Southall he was not suggesting all that happened had been “one-way” adding, “You know you should have stopped but you didn’t.
“You knew full well there was a significant difference in your ages and you should have known better. You quite clearly flattered this girl.”
He told the 42-year-old it was clear there had been a “degree of planning” in the offending.
Southall admitted sexual activity with a child and he was told he must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
Samantha Powis, defending told Wolverhampton Crown Court that Southall was deeply sorry for what had been a “moment of madness".
