TV crews have been out in the streets of Dudley, filming Lenny Henry's semi-autobiographical drama, Danny and the Human Zoo.

The show, which will air on BBC1, was written by the Dudley born comedian and follows his life as a working class teenager in 1970s Dudley.

It will centre around talented impressionist Danny Fearon - played by Kascion Franklin - and his working class Jamaican family, as he rises to fame as a stand-up comedian.

Lenny said he was "excited" about bringing his fictional teen memoir to the nation, adding: "I can't believe that we're finally shooting my screenplay.

"I've crammed the first two years of a very long career into 90 minutes - it's gonna rock.

"I think , although it's not exactly what happened, that we'll get a strong sense of what it might have been like for a young black kid from Dudley to be suddenly hurled into the maelstrom of this business we call show.

"There's an incredibly talented cast and I feel very lucky to be a part of it all."

The Dudley-born comedian, who is getting in front of the camera to play Danny's dad Samson, will be joined by a top cast including Doctor Who's Arthur Darvill, Richard Wilson, Mark Benton and Cecilia Noble.

Filming has been going on across the West Midlands over the last couple of weeks, including Dudley manufacturer Thomas Dudley Ltd, where scenes were shot showing Danny working at a foundry as a youngster.
