FIREFIGHTERS from across the midlands have been in the running for charity cash to raise a flaming massive total.

Members of West Midlands Fire Service scooped a whopping £7,000 by becoming human hamsters running in a metal wheel for a total of 50 hours in full-firefighting kit.

The marathon took place last weekend (September 27 and 28) in Birmingham’s Brindley Place.

Proceeds from the challenge will be split between Cure Leukaemia and The Fire Fighters Charity.

Commander Adam Joyce, who completed the final hour of the challenge, said: “I saw a team of firefighters on the Isle of Wight complete a 48-hour challenge with the wheel last year and I thought it would be a great way to raise money and awareness.”
